Designated the Atlas, this missile system was America's first Inter-Continental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) and first line of defense against a cold war Russian missile attack. In the late 1950's and early 1960's, it was Americas number one national priority. Three different types of Atlas operational ICBM sites were built - Atlas D, Atlas E and Atlas F.
